On June 13, RA Minister of Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Dr. Hranush Hakobyan ended her three-day visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt. During meetings with the Egyptian Armenian community at the Patriarchate of the Armenian Church in Cairo and Alexandria and the Armenian Catholic Patriarchate in Cairo, Minister Hakobyan introduced the activities of the RA Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, the past and upcoming projects, perspectives for development of Armenia-Diaspora partnership and answered questions concerning the Egyptian Armenian community. Mrs. Hakobyan had meetings with the administration of AGBU Egypt Regional Committee and the Egyptian-Armenian “Arev”, “Housaber” and “Jahakir” cultural unions at the RA Embassy in Cairo, as well as visited the Armenian clubs of Cairo to get acquainted with and speak to the Egyptian-Armenian community. Minister Hakobyan also attended the renowned library of Alexandria where she took part in the presentation of the Arabic translation of the memoirs of Egypt’s first Prime Minister, notable Armenian political and state figure Nubar Pasha (1825-1899). In her welcoming remarks, the Minister expressed high appreciation of Nubar Pasha’s role in the contemporary period of Egypt’s history, the strengthening of the centuries-old friendship between Armenians and Egyptians and characterized Nubar Pasha as a symbol of Armenian-Egyptian friendly ties. In Alexandria, the Minister visited the painting exhibition of 10 Armenian artists opened at the Russian Cultural Center through combined efforts of the Armenian and Russian Embassies in Egypt. On the last day of the visit, the RA Minister of Diaspora was received by Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Mr. Ahmed Abul Gheit. The interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the high-level Armenian-Egyptian relations. They discussed issues related to the role and significance of the Armenian Diaspora in Egypt and details on Abul Gheit’s upcoming visit to Armenia. Minister Abul Gheit highly appreciated the role of the Egyptian-Armenian community in Egypt and further strengthening of friendly relations between Armenia and Egypt. Accompanying Minister Hranush Hakobyan during the visit was Armenia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Egypt H.E. Dr. Armen Melkonyan. |
