On January 18, within the framework of the official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt the Speaker of the National Assembly H.E. Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan met with the Prime Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt H.E. Dr. Ahmed Nazif.
At the beginning of the meeting H.E. Mr. Abrahamyan presented the results of the meeting with the Speaker of the People’s Assembly of the Arab Republic of Egypt H.E. Dr. Fathi Sorour. High assessing the current level of the Armenian-Egyptian political relations, he underlined the necessity of activation of cooperation in the trade-economic sphere. RA NA Speaker presented the efforts of the authorities of the Republic of Armenia directed to overcoming the consequences of global crisis.
The Prime Minister Nazif expressed hope that the activation of the mutual visits between the two countries will promote the further development of the relations between them. The interlocutors agreed that the level of the Armenian-Egyptian trade-economic cooperation did not correspond with the level of political relations. In that context H.E. Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan proposed also to invite the Egyptian businessmen and hold Armenian-Egyptian business forum at the next sitting of the Armenian-Egyptian Inter-governmental joint commission, which will be held in Yerevan in summer. This idea enjoyed the Prime Minister Nazif’s approval.
During the meeting the interlocutors also discussed issues regarding the existing cooperation between the two countries and touched upon problems of regional security.
On the evening of the same day the delegation led by RA NA Speaker H.E. Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan returned to Yerevan.
