Egypt was one of the first countries in the Arab world that recognized the independence of Armenia in 1991. In March 1992, diplomatic relations were established between the two countries. In May 1992, the first diplomatic mission of the Republic of Armenia in the Middle East was inaugurated in Cairo. The first Ambassador of Armenia to Egypt was Dr. Eduard Nalbandian (1992-1999) who was followed by Dr. Sergey Manassarian (1999-2004) and then by Dr. Rouben Karapetian (2004-2009). Since July 22, 2009, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the Arab Republic of Egypt is Dr. Armen Melkonian. |
